About Venara

Real astronomy for the math. Honest words for the meaning.

Venara makes personal readings from a real birth chart: how you love first, then the rest of your life from the same chart. This page explains how the charts are calculated, how our articles are written and checked, and what we will never claim.

How charts are calculated

  • Planetary positions come from an astronomical ephemeris (the open-source Astronomy Engine library), in the tropical zodiac. In our own tests against NASA JPL data and published reference charts, positions agreed to within about one arcminute.
  • Your birth city sets the coordinates and the historical time zone, including daylight saving rules in effect on your birth date.
  • Houses use the Placidus system when your birth time is known (Whole Sign above 66 degrees latitude). Without a birth time we cast the chart for noon and leave out the rising sign, houses and the Moon's exact degree rather than guess.
  • Numerology uses the Pythagorean system. Human Design uses the standard design date about 88 degrees of solar arc before birth.
  • No language model is involved in any calculation.

How readings are written

Every interpretation starts from a written library with a passage for each placement, drawn from the long astrological tradition. A language model rewrites those passages for you and ties them to your quiz answers. An automated validator then checks every sentence against your chart and rejects any that names a sign, house, aspect or number you do not have. Each section of a report lists the placements it was built from, so you can check it against any other calculator.

Editorial standards for the blog

Articles are written by the Venara editorial team with AI assistance, then checked by automated rules and by the team before publishing. Every article must:

  • Answer the question in the first paragraph, in plain English, and define each astrology term the first time it appears.
  • Cite only sources from a fixed, verified list: NASA and JPL for astronomy, published astrology texts, and peer-reviewed research where research is discussed.
  • Use only astronomy facts that hold up (for example, the Moon changes sign about every 2.5 days; Saturn returns around age 29).
  • Contain no invented statistics, studies, quotes, experts, testimonials or customer stories.
  • Make no predictions of specific events and give no medical, mental-health, legal or financial advice.
  • Describe strengths and patterns for every placement, with no fear language about “bad” signs or doomed matches.

Each article shows the date it was last updated. If you find an error, email us and we will correct it and update the date.

What astrology is, and is not

The positions of the planets are real astronomy. What they mean is a symbolic tradition, not a science: controlled tests, such as a double-blind study published in Nature in 1985, did not find that astrology predicts personality or events. Many people still find it a useful way to reflect on how they love and what they need. That is how Venara presents it. More in Is astrology real? An honest answer.
